Irrigation Winterization Service

How To Prepare for Your Naiad Irrigation Winterization Service

Preparing your irrigation system for winter is essential to prevent costly damage and ensure it runs smoothly next spring. Before our technicians arrive, there are a few simple steps you can take to make your irrigation winterization service safer and more efficient.

6 Steps to Prepare Your Naiad Irrigation Winterization Service

1. Turn Off the Water Supply

Be sure to shut off the water to your irrigation system a few days before your appointment. This gives you time to confirm that you’ve turned off the correct line—and not the water to your entire house!

2. Close Interior Drains

Not all irrigation systems have indoor drains, but if yours does, please make sure it’s closed before your appointment. If it’s left open, air could be forced through the line and into your basement during your irrigation winterization service.

After the process is complete, you can reopen the drain to release any remaining water. See what an interior drain looks like on a Naiad Irrigation System:

3. Provide Clear Access Around Your Property

During the irrigation winterization process, our technicians will need to move freely around your property as they inspect and winterize the system, identifying any potential issues that may need to be addressed in the spring. Please ensure:

  • Any locked gates are unlocked
  • That they are unblocked and able to be opened
  • Pathways are clear

4. Expose and Mark Valve Box

During our service, we’ll need access to the control valves located in the green valve boxes on your property. If they’re buried under mulch, dirt, or landscaping, please uncover or clearly mark them so our team can easily locate them.

5. Keep Pets Safely Indoors

For the safety of our technicians and your furry friends, we kindly ask that pets be kept indoors during our service, and that you clean up after them, especially if your irrigation components are located in a dog run.

6. Check for Pests

Bees, yellowjackets, and other insects are sometimes drawn to irrigation components. Before your appointment, do a quick inspection to make sure there are no active nests or infestations in or around the system. For safety reasons, we can’t proceed with the irrigation winterization service if pests are present.
